Losing Equals Winning

Key Verse: Matthew 10:39, “He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.”

Thought to Glow: Losing your life to gain life may seem like a backwards thought, but God says it is the way to find your life.

Passage: Matthew 10:34-42

How would you like to be known for losing? One of the most amazing feats in NFL history is the Buffalo Bills making it to the Super Bowl four times in a row, yet losing each time. From 1991-1994, the Bills were an incredible team, beating opponents and making it to the biggest game of their lives. Yet, they couldn’t pull out a win. Four Super Bowls, four defeats. How devastating this must have been. We always want to win and not lose anything.

When it comes to our Christian life, Jesus challenges us with what seems to be a backwards thought. He says in Luke 17:33, “Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.” When we focus on our life and seek to gain as much in this world as we can, in the end we lose it all. Yet, when we chose to give our life to Jesus and His glory, we find life. We find life when we lose our selfishness and pride and humble ourselves before Christ. We find life when we let go of doing things our way, and seek to follow Jesus. We find true fulfillment in losing our life and gaining Jesus.

Are you ready to lose in order to win? Then, willingly lose your life to Christ in order to gain life with Christ.
