Confession: The Door to Fellowship

Key Verse: 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Thought to Glow: Keeping a short account with God will keep the joy of salvation in your life.

Passage: 1 John 1

Can you believe it? The Creator God, The Infinite One, The Almighty, wants to, no desires to, have a real, passionate, intimate relationship with you! No really, can you believe it?! At times it’s hard to fathom this. Yet, the Bible is clear that God yearns to have daily fellowship with you. He hungers to commune with you. Incredible!

Jesus said that He came to give life and to give it more abundantly (John 10:10). Yet, why is it that we struggle with life? Why do we feel defeated so often? Why do we not have the joy Jesus promised? Someone once said, “The doorway to fellowship with God is confession.”

The reason we don’t have this joy is that we have allowed sin to create a layer of dust on our hearts.  This layer of dust, though it may seem small, is creating a larger problem. If not dealt with quickly, sin will keep us from close fellowship with God.

When King David sinned by committing sin with Bathsheba, the joy of his salvation was lost. It wasn’t until He truly confessed his sin and repented of it that his joy was restored (Ps. 51).

Today, don’t wait to confess your sin. No sin is worth the cost of losing fellowship with God. Keep a short account with God, and you will experience the joy of His salvation.
