A Right Perspective

Key Verse: James 1:2, “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;”

Thought to Glow: Having the right perspective in life is critical to how we view everything that happens to us.

Passage: James 1

During the first century, Christians were persecuted very severely for their faith in Jesus. Some were tortured, others were burned alive, still others lost their home, family, and friends. It is to these people, and to us today, that God’s gives this passage. He says to “count it all joy…” God’s perspective on our trials is not a punishment, but a blessing. God is working in us something far greater. God knows that this trial is needed to produce the fruit He has in store. Having the right perspective is critical to how we view everything that happens to us.

When things are going well we think God loves us and all is right. But, when trials and difficulties come, we think He is mad at us. These trials can be challenging and sometimes seem overwhelming. At times we may ask, “Why am I going through this? I don’t deserve this.” Yet, the truth is, because of our sin, we deserve much more. Some people, because of the difficulty, quit on God or walk away from their faith. How sad. Don’t let this happen to you. “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Galatians 6:9).

The next time you go through a trial, don’t complain or wish it weren’t there. Instead, allow God to work in you and let patience have her perfect work so that you will be a mature Christian able to handle all that God gives you.
