A New Owner
Key Verse: Romans 6:4, “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
Thought to Glow: Jesus redeemed you with His blood, therefore, serve Him with your life.
Passage: Romans 7
Did you catch that wonderful thought in verse 4 of our passage today? “…ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ…” Through Jesus Christ you have been redeemed from the slave block of sin, bought back from the very master that was killing you. Jesus, through His blood, purchased you and has given you life. Once, because of sin, you had a death sentence upon you (Rom 6:23). Now, you have been given life. What a blessed thought. Stop and let that sink in for a moment.
The Bible says that Jesus is now owner of your body and spirit (1 Cor. 6:19-20). You are not your own. Because He owns you, God has the right to tell you what to do. The last part of verse 4, says God wants you to bring fruit unto Him. This means, He wants your life to please Him and bring honor and glory to His name. Yet, instead of being a cruel slave master, God wants you to serve Him in love and sincerity, in “newness of spirit, not in the oldness of the letter.” (Rom 7:6).
Take a moment and think about how you live your life. Can you truly say the things you do, the things you think, the places you go, etc. bring glory to God? God doesn’t want you to continue in the sin that once enslaved you. Instead, He wants you to live in righteousness and holiness, which brings life.
