If You Love Me
Key Verse: John 14:15, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
Thought to Glow: A true love for God will show itself in the way that we live for God.
Passage: John 14, 1 Corinthians 13
This statement of Jesus is so simple, yet so challenging to accomplish. “If you love me,” He says. “If I love you?” “Of course, I love Jesus.” Why would He question our love for Him? A phrase we say often is, “I love you.” Yet, does our life back up our words? True love is not just verbal; it always shows itself in some form.
1 Corinthians 13 has been titled the “Love Chapter” of the Bible. In this passage, God explains what true love is. As you read the passage you will find that love is always followed by an action verb. True love does something. It is not just words. It has action. It has life. It has a desire to accomplish.
Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” There it is. There is the action. Keeping God’s commands. Following the Bible. Doing what God says to do. But, why is this so hard for us? Why is it hard to follows God’s commands? Could it be that we really don’t love Him? Could it be that we love ourselves more than we love God? Stop and think about how much you love God. Then, compare that with how much you love yourself? Remember, God is to be our Lord. He is to be first in our lives. Today, make sure that your words of love are followed by your actions of love.
